About Us

Craigleith Ski Club, founded in 1958, places great emphasis on being a family oriented Club. Our Vision Statement, “Creating a lifetime of memories for our Members’ Families, Friends & Future Generations” reflects our commitment to provide the best on and off hill facilities on the Escarpment.
Craigleith has produced many great athletes; most notably Steve Podborski (one of the original “Crazy Canucks”) who dominated the World Cup in the early 1980’s and helped put Canada on the Map in the Ski Racing World.
Craigleith has been really productive in growing and developing both high performance athletes who have regualilty competed at the highest levels as well as running one of the largest racing programs in North America. We set high goals for all of our athletes and work very hard to instil passion for ski racing and skiing in all of the racing participants at the club. We believe in supporting our athletes’ right from when they join the Craigleith through all the levels of their racing career and even afterwards as they attend university or compete with provincial or national teams. Our goal is develop athletes and young people who have a passion for skiing, competing and are engaged members of the Craigleith community. We strive to develop and retain as many athletes as possible to continue the overall success of the club. This is in the hands of the Craigleith (Canucks) Coaches!
Craigleith has a staff of over 90 full and part-time dedicated coaches ranging in age from 16 to over 40 years of age. The vast majority of our coaches are members of both the Canadian Ski Coaches Federation (CSCF) and the Canadian Ski Instructors Alliance (CSIA) and currently have several Level 3 CSCF and Level 3 CSIA coaches on staff. This season alone, Craigleith had three coaches pass their Performance Level 3 CSCF; over 10 coaches pass their Development Level CSCF course and also have a number pass their Level 2 CSIA course. We now have over 15 Coaches on staff that are certified through the CSCF to Mentor and Certify younger coaches that our trained and looking to further develop their own coaching qualifications and experience.
Technical Director of the CSCF, Pierre Ruel stated:
“Along with Craigleith having the most certified mentor coaches than any other Club in the Country, Craigleith Ski Club is a leader in implementing a philosophy of innovative coaching that fits within the mission statement of the CSCF”.
There is a lot of momentum right now in Craigleith’s Racing Program as we were recently named by Alpine Canada as the “Club of the Year” winning the Telus Award of Excellence in this category for 2011!
